Assistant Media Planner

Hoffman York is looking for an Assistant Media Planner to join Hoffman York’s upbeat, analytical-minded, and problem-solving media team. Candidates must have at least one year work experience in the field of advertising or marketing. Assistant Media Planners have prior experience activating media campaigns with paid investments in search, social, digital and/or offline media as well as managing performance and reporting on campaign success. To succeed in media, team members must have an ability to quickly grasp new technology and demonstrate success organizing information. All media positions entail multi-tasking and managing multiple projects in tandem in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment.

The Assistant Media Planner position reports to Senior Media Planners, Supervisors and/or Directors in the HY Media department.

While creativity is exemplified in how we use numbers, research, and data to tell a story, HY media professionals are not responsible for creative development (design, production, copywriting) or PR.

This is a full-time position based in Milwaukee. As part of our Hybrid Remote Worker Policy, employees work in our office located in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward with the flexible option to work from a remote place of work up to two days a week.


  • Reviewing category, audience, and media research studies to pull out insights that help frame a discussion and a recommended approach.
  • Completing tasks related to planning, buying, and reporting on all forms of national and local media including but not limited to TV, video, radio, streaming audio, print, outdoor, native ads, social ads, paid search ads and other forms of digital.
  • Writing thoughtful, concise, well-organized emails, document summaries and Power Point presentations.
  • Creating visually clean Microsoft Office charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Providing media vendors with instructions and maintaining good vendor relationships.
  • Coordinating buys with vendors and sales representatives including organizing proposal submissions, negotiating, clarifying details of the media buy, and ensuring buys are fulfilled as ordered.
  • Uploading digital creative assets and preparing tracking tags in our trafficking systems.
  • Achieving proficiency in the operation of all agency computer software and systems (e.g., Kantar, IMS, Sizmek) and managing media buys in self-serve buying platforms (e.g., Facebook/Instagram, Google, LinkedIn, TikTok, HY Trade Desk).
  • Pulling reports in HY’s third-party auditing tools to track media performance, audience delivery and proactively suggesting optimizations for future campaigns to the team.
  • Entering buy details and reconciling invoices in our Nexelus billing system.
  • Maintaining organized and accurate flowcharts and budget tracking sheets.
  • 1+ years of experience working in the field of advertising, marketing, or media; Experience with investing paid media dollars is a plus.
  • A degree in Advertising, Business, Analytics, or a related field is a plus.
  • Examples of past experiences organizing information for marketing purposes.
  • Meticulous budget tracking skills, accuracy with numbers and success working with research and data.
  • Examples of adept use of media technology for planning, buying, and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel).
  • Well-structured and grammatically-sound writing abilities for writing English-language emails, documents and presentations that are shared both internally and externally to employees, vendors, and clients.
  • Positive references that suggest proactivity, comprehension, accuracy, and collaboration.
