Lead Content Writer

We’re growing our team and looking for a savvy, speedy and intellectually curious individual with a fierce passion for writing and an eagerness to work hard. As a Lead Content Writer, you will be given a wide range of writing assignments and responsibilities for a variety of consumer clients ranging from boating and grooming to travel and wellness.  

Day-to-day tasks include leading a team of writers, providing thoughtful feedback to these writers, writing thought leadership articles, social media campaigns and content calendars, video scripts, internal communications and more.  Other duties include proofreading, promoting content through organic social and email marketing, reporting on article performance and optimizing for future content. Oh, and occasionally coming up with a few off-the-wall stunts.

  • Hiring, managing Content Strategists, Content Coordinators and Content Interns
  • Lead and manage HY’s blog and social media presence, working closely with director and other key stakeholders so writing assignments are executed according to plan and agreed upon process
  • Support and play a leadership role in coordinating and managing projects
  • Ideate, research, write and edit copy including both long and short-form assignments like social media calendars, social ad copy, thought leadership articles, blog posts, newsletters, press releases, email marketing copy, infographics and more for clients in the men’s grooming, pet, wellness, outdoor leisure and travel industries in both B2B and B2C space
  • Managing influencer programs for clients from identifying, vetting, contracting and reporting on results
  • Ideating and managing social media contests and giveaways for clients
  • Ensure all copy is properly proofed and ready for distribution
  • Work closely with content strategists and other team members, including content designers, creatives, account service and SEO specialists, to ensure projects are on strategy, on time and on budget
  • Conducting interviews, identifying a story angle and writing articles for internal communication newsletters via MailChimp and GetResponse for both the agency and our clients
  • Provide strategic insights that can enhance or optimize agency and client projects
  • Understand and manage content publishing and distribution efforts, including internal and external email, website publishing and organic social media
  • Knowledge of writing SEO-optimized copy a plus
  • Develop and manage timelines
  • Leading and managing agency events
  • Other duties as assigned

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, English or a related field with a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant writing experience and strong writing samples (agency experience is a plus). In addition, requires:

  • A powerful writer and clever thinker with an understanding of social media best practices, content development, measurement and listening
  • Well-spoken, well organized, detail-oriented and can operate with limited supervision
  • Understanding of the paid, owned and earned media space as it relates to social media execution
  • Knowledge of influencer campaigns and experience cultivating influencer partnerships is a plus
