Take Your Dog to Work Day: One Dog’s Perspective

On June 21, HY welcomed 11 new employees. They never submitted resumes, but we are confident they will excel at their new roles. They helped us shepherd in new business. They retrieved our copies. They hounded clients for approvals. Just kidding. They slept by our feet, gnawed on bones and sniffed out scraps in the kitchen. Okay, so they aren’t new employees, they’re our employees’ dogs and it’s not a hiring blitz it’s Take Your Dog to Work Day.

One of our pups, an Australian Cattle Dog mix named Callie wanted to tell you a little bit more about our second annual Take Your Dog to Work Day celebration first-hand (er, paw).

This is the second time mom let me come to work. The last time feels like it was probably seven years ago, though my concept of time isn’t the best. Last time, I ran around the office with a camera on my back. Now, my they call me an influencer—whatever that is. I worked in the social department. I sat at a desk just like the humans. They gave me lots of treats and pets. I took a lap of coffee when mom wasn’t looking.

Mom made me smell nice at the Wahl 60-second grooming station. It was sort of like a bath, but less bad. She used this wipe that made me smell like flowers. We use them at home too. I needed to find something stinky to roll in immediately. I promptly zoomed around the office. The humans had a hot dog lunch which seems sort of insensitive? I got over it when they snuck me a piece. After lunch, we walked along a very large water bowl in the Third Ward. I’m not sure what a ward is or where the first or second of them are, but I’m with my new dog friends and fellow employees. I am happy.

Once we got back to my new office, mom had to go to some meetings. This is cool with me because I got to hang out with the interns in doggie daycare. The other dogs here are cool. Simba is my friend and we played for a week or so. Again, my concept of time isn’t great.

After that, I was pretty exhausted. Do you mean to tell me this is where the humans go every day? I just figured they were going to the dog park or something. Somehow, my favorite blanket that is always at home ended up on the floor by mom’s desk. I am confused by this, but nevertheless, I must nap now. I hope mom invites me back in another seven years.
